Cloth nappies. I had toyed with the idea of them when Isaac became a toddler but the thought of all the washing and extra work really didn't appeal to me as a first time mum, even when the guilt of using disposables ate away at me.

I'd heard about these cute Trunki* ride-on suitcases for toddlers long before I had my own little one, and always thought they were such a clever idea so when I was offered one to review, I couldn't wait to test it out. We even picked one in a custom colour of our very own choice!

We took off to Bali for a week in mid October for a dear friend's wedding and fully expected to return home in time for Halloween, but literally hours before our flight home, I decided on a spontaneous trip to Hong Kong and took Isaac with me! G sadly didn't have any more annual leave to join us but he was happy for us to enjoy a bonus two weeks in Hong Kong to see family and friends.

Before I share a post on the amazing time we had in Bali, I wanted to do food round up of Hong Kong for friends who are there right now. You guys all know that Hong Kong means lots of great food for us and it was no exception on this trip. I've already covered a lot of my favourite eats in the Tsim Sha Tsui area, written about delicious and most importantly baby-friendly restaurants, and a recent desserts roundup.

For those who have the time to venture further out of the main areas of Hong Kong, I fully recommend a trip to Tai Po Market for fantastic local eats that is not only cheap, but also tastes incredible. If you do make a trip to Tai Po, do not miss out on the tofu fa dessert in the main square just outside of the market.

Another area that is a little far out from the main city area is Tuen Mun. We stayed in the Gold Coast Hotel for one night as a mini break and the Singaporean restaurant and Prime Rib restaurant were both outstanding. Definitely worth the journey, and even better if you can make a break out of it.

For some really old fashioned Hong Kong eats, Tai Wing Wah and Lung Wah Hotel are well worth it for a nostalgic dive into authentic Cantonese food. You can find my full list of Hong Kong eats here.

How-To-Get-Into-Child-Modelling-UK-Isaac-Lam

After I shared photos of Isaac modelling for Next a few weeks back, I had lots of messages and general curiosity asking me how I got him into it. I had always liked the idea of seeing him on print for brands on the high street and luckily for me, I had a couple of friends who already had their babies doing some modelling and were generous enough to take me through the steps.

Isaac had quite bad baby eczema when he was born which didn't disappear until around 4 months, so prior to that, modelling would have been out of the question.

Strictly speaking, Isaac's room is no longer a nursery since he is already a toddler, but I'd really like to call it that since I never had the opportunity to decorate one when he was a newborn.

Having refrained from throwing a 1st birthday party for Isaac, I was so ready to go all out with his 2nd birthday party, 2 weeks ago. Without all the emotions I felt as he turned 1, his 2nd birthday party was fun-filled and I was just so happy to see him having lots of fun and being completely oblivious that the party was for him.

Hello you guys, long time no blog. June has come and gone in a flash and I can't believe I went by a full month without blogging! If you follow me on Instagram, you'll know that my garden renovations finally completed in June and then we went to Tuscany for a week for one of my closest friend's stunning wedding (I will share a post hopefully soon!). As soon as we got back, I was busy prepping Isaac's 2nd birthday party this gone weekend and it turned out to be super fun.

Isaac has been lucky enough to go to Hong Kong 3 times already at the grand old age of 20 months old, and whilst the long-haul flight to Hong Kong is an eye watering 12-13 hours long (not to mention the hours spent travelling to and from the airports as well), being well prepared and organised with luggage makes a huge difference to anxiety and sanity levels in my experience.

When my lovely friend A announced her pregnancy, I was over the moon for her and asked her straight out if I could plan her baby shower. I love an excuse to plan a party (take a look at my baby shower and one of my besties), and especially gushable baby showers. Together with her awesome friend C, we sorted out a baby shower dessert bar, bunting decorations, a guest signing book and plenty of fun games!

Superhero-raisin-buns-ellas-kitchen-recipe

Are they buns are are they scones? I was fooled for a moment when they came out of the oven thinking they looked very much like scones. But, they are in fact pillowy buns that taste great with butter and jam or with honey.

Another successful recipe from Ella's Kitchen's The Big Baking Book (the yellow one).

Ingredients:
125ml whole milk, plus extra to glaze
50g unsalted butter, plus extra for greasing
250g strong white bread flour, plus extra for dusting
225g strong wholemeal bread flour (I used 475g strong white bread flour instead)
1 tsp vanilla extract
2 tsp fast-action dried yeast
125ml apple juice
1 egg, beaten
200g raisins

Directions:
1. Heat the milk in a saucepan until bubbling and hot. Add the butter, remove from the heat and leave to cool slightly until the butter has melted
2. Meanwhile, put all the flours, vanilla extract, yeast, apple juice, eggs and raisins in a large bowl. Add the warm milk and butter mixture, and use a round-bladed to mix it all into a dough
3. Turn out the dough onto a lightly floured surface and knead for 10 minutes until the dough is smooth and elastic. Place the dough in a clean, lightly oiled bowl, cover it with cling film and leave to prove in a warm place for about 1.5 hours, or until doubled in size
4. Preheat the oven to 220C degrees/gas mark 7. Line a large baking sheet with baking parchment
5. On a floured surface, divide the dough into 12 equal pieces. Shape each piece into a ball and place each ball on the prepared baking sheet, spacing the balls well apart. Cover them with greased cling film and leave them in a warm place for 30 minutes until risen
6. Brush the buns with milk and bake them in the oven for 12-15 minutes until pale golden and they sound hollow when the bases are tapped. Transfer them onto a wire rack to cool
7. Serve warm or cold. The buns will store for 2-3 days in an airtight container

Cheese-and-tomato-soldiers-ellas-kitchen-recipe

Cheese and tomato are a classic combination and who doesn't love a pizza tasting bread? Isaac loved these cheese and tomato soldiers, as did all the adults in the house. They were gone in a flash and just as well, since it didn't really keep for beyond a day.

Bursting-blueberry-pop-ups-ellas-kitchen-recipe

These bursting blueberry pop-ups from Ella's Kitchen's The Big Baking Book (the yellow one) are super easy to make and just look so pretty. They are not very sweet at all, and if you prefer, you can add honey if your little one is over 1 year old, or a little more sugar when making the batter.

I ended up serving Isaac's ones with a blob of fruit puree from the Ella's Kitchen fruit pouches and drizzled honey on my ones once they were out of the oven.

The weather has been so warm lately that I've only mustered enough energy to keep on top of housework, feed Isaac, feed ourselves and I have completely fallen into a comfortable routine of napping with Isaac for both his morning and afternoon naps. Blogging has fallen to the wayside (sorry!) and we've been spending a lot of time outdoors coz you just don't know how long the sun will be around for in UK.

4th of July and my baby turned 1 years old.

I can't believe how fast the time has flown and my baby is no longer a baby! I got all emotional writing his first birthday card, trying to use words to convey how much I love him. One day he will read all his birthday cards from G and I, and I'm sure he will be suitably embarrassed.

Isaac is now 9 months old and well weaned onto food. He absolutely loves eating and it gives me so my joy to cook for him and watch him eagerly try lots of new flavours.

He's on 3 full meals a day and whilst they are all usually home cooked, shop bought food pouches are so handy for days when we are out and about.
