The Cutest Cloth Nappies In Town

Cloth nappies. I had toyed with the idea of them when Isaac became a toddler but the thought of all the washing and extra work really didn't appeal to me as a first time mum, even when the guilt of using disposables ate away at me.

Fast forward a few years and with the arrival of Joseph, my second baby, I couldn't let go of the desire to be kinder to our environment and with perfect timing, a friend offered to lend us her cloth nappies as her youngest had started potty training.

I still felt pretty much the same about all the extra laundry that would come with cloth nappies though, and hauling around a wet bag when we were out was also not ideal. And then, I realised that I didn't need to go all or nothing about using cloth nappies.

So I devised a plan to use cloth nappies at home, disposables for when we were out/on holiday and also for the night. As Joseph pretty much slept through the night from 10 weeks old, I didn't want to worry about potential leakages or changing him as he slept soundly.

Then I saw Pim Pam* nappies flash up on my Instagram feed and I was instantly hooked. Lovely Jaime had been sent some to try out on her beautiful twin boys and the designs were just breathtaking. I love beautiful fabrics and design is important to me when I'm shopping for things, and I knew if I was going to convert successfully to cloth nappies, then these nappies would most certainly keep me right on track!

Not surprisingly, many of the designs had sold out on the website and I had to wait a couple of weeks for a restock. I bought 5 nappies and Aless was so kind to send me another one in a newly released design.

The nappies are made of the softest micro fleece liners, and the outer shell is waterproof. Each nappy comes with 2 liners, but I've found using one liner to be more comfy on Joseph and does a good job of holding in the wees when changed after a 2-3 hours. The adjustable snap buttons are easy and fast to use and there is no worry of them snagging the lovely fabrics unlike velcro straps. All printing inks on the nappy shells are OEKO-TEX certified and non harmful to babies.

I love our Pim Pam nappies so much and will be buying a few more once I return my borrowed cloth nappies to my friend. I'm getting through around 3-4 cloth nappies a day (one disposable for the night) and do a nappy wash every other day.

After some experimenting, disposable nappy liners are a must to help catch some of the poos, and a light rinse for soiled nappies in the sink is a must for me, before the nappies hit a prewash cycle and then a longer full wash cycle for cottons.

There have been a couple of weeks where I'd stopped using the cloth nappies as life just got too busy and I didn't need extra laundry on top - that was perfectly OK and it worked for me. Knowing that less is sent to landfill from our home is already a big comfort.

I am on the fence as to whether all the extra machine washes are good for the environment VS waste sent to landfill, but for now, I'm happy to stick with cloth nappies. And seriously, tell me if you have ever seen a nappy more beautiful than these Pim Pam nappies?! Design is at the forefront of Pim Pam nappies and I can't get enough of it.
