Important Interior Design Principles For Your Home

Decorating our first home and seeing our design concepts come to life was one of the most rewarding things I've ever done. I spent hours reading newly bought interior design books and on the Internet, and eventually choose an overall theme then felt right for us. 

I learnt so much in the process and want to share my tips on how you can apply some simple principles to your own home. While some people are intimidated by the idea of interior design, all it really comes down to is basic interior design principles such as unity, balance, focal point, rhythm, and light. It is these basic principles that every interior designer uses to create a great looking space.

It really shouldn't have taken me this long to write a post, but Bao in Soho is just too good. So damn good that I wanted to write only an amazing piece that truly justifies Bao's existence and the crazy queues that form before the doors are even opened for business.

Top 6 Eats at Tai Po Market's Cooked Food Centre, Hong Kong

Tai Po market's indoor cooked food centre is a local haunt for many of Tai Po's residence but much more of a mystery for tourists and non locals. It's easily overwhelming once you arrive on the 3rd floor of Tai Po market, without the faintest idea of what to choose or where to choose from. 

Luckily, my husband's family are Tai Po locals and we have his aunty to guide us every time we are in Hong Kong. We now know which vendor to go to for the best shrimp roe noodle, the silkiest steamed cheung fun (rice rolls) and the bounciest fish balls to name a few. 

Pigeon and Nostalgia at Lung Wah Hotel 龍華酒店, Shatin Hong Kong

Nestled in a very residential area in Shatin, is the famed Lung Wah Hotel, a restaurant specialising in Pigeon. Lung Wah was established in 1950 and remains an affectionate and nostalgic eatery for many local Hong Kongers.

Most of the original decor is still intact, and walking up the steps to the main restaurant certainly triggered memories of how Hong Kong used to be like when I was a child. I spent many long summer holidays in Hong Kong and remember with fondness what Hong Kong was like back in the 80's and 90's.

It's coming up to 1 year since we bought our house, and aside from the downstairs shower room/toilet and the garden, the major renovations are more or less completed.

This project has been in the making for a long while and I couldn't have done it without the fabulous Hanh from Hanabelle! As I said back in April, I've not written enough recipes to share with you all and that is all set to change. I love cooking, and making a different meal every day for dinner is normal in my kitchen. It was surprising to me when I heard friends and colleagues say that they cook the same meals every week for lack of time or inspiration.

How I Lost Over A Stone, Even As A Food Blogger

I wasn't planning on blogging about this, but I'd uploaded a photo onto my Instagram referring to my weight loss whilst on a 3 week holiday in Hong Kong and straightaway, I had friends asking me how I did it. 

I managed to lose 17lbs in the space of 2 weeks, through good old exercise and portion control.

It has been nearly a decade since I visited Stanley, and I know lots have developed there since 2006. I made it a must do on my itinerary this time round in Hong Kong, and luckily for me, my dear friend W was happy to accompany me. 

After meeting up with W in Causeway Bay, she found the right mini bus stop heading to Stanley, so on we got and 35-40 minutes later, we're there.

My Favourite Japanese Restaurant in Hong Kong, The Yuu 一遊

Good Japanese food is easy to find in Hong Kong, and I reckon there are as many Japanese restaurants as there are Cantonese and Hong Kong style restaurants. Being so close to Japan, the quality of seafood is amazingly fresh and inexpensive, and it would be a total waste not to hunt out a Japanese meal whilst in Hong Kong. 

My good friend M suggested The Yuu 一遊 for dinner in TST's romantic and tucked away Knutsford Terrace. It's one of her favourite restaurants and she was sure I'd love it.

Helloooo guys! After spending most of July in Hong Kong and of course chomping non-stop, I've got a ton of Hong Kong related posts waiting to be written up.

I had such an amazing time whilst in Hong Kong and when the time came to leave, I felt so sad. It's taken well over a week for my brain and heart to re-route back to UK life but I'm finally back into the swing of things here at home.

Incredible Cantonese Food at The Chairman 大班樓, Hong Kong

One of the most memorable meals I've eaten in Hong Kong this time round has to be at The Chairman in Central. 

The Chairman really is Cantonese food at it's finest. Cantonese specific restaurants in Hong Kong are not that easy to find as they usually incorporate other Chinese regions such as Peking or Hunan to name a few, and what makes The Chairman stand out from the rest is the beautifully delicate yet deeply intense flavours. The ingredients and seasoning work so well with each other, and layers of flavour are gently revealed with each bite. Another bonus is that no MSG is used so you can really taste the ingredients used.
