Food Bloggers Get To Know: #fdbloggersGTK

When Ala and Jennie both tagged me in the Food Bloggers Get To Know series, I knew I would have fun writing this post. The #fdbloggersGTK tag was put together by Loriley so that we can all get to know each other a little better. What a great idea!

Thanks to Ala and Jennie for thinking of me, I loved reading through your posts and getting to know more about you guys. Here's a little about me and my blog:

Name: Lucy

Blog: www.lucylovestoeat.com

What was your reason for starting a blog? I've been reading food blogs since 2010 and knew I just had to start my own. I love eating, cooking, feeding my loved ones, and sharing food stories at every opportunity. I intended to write a food-only blog documenting my dad's amazing recipes, my favourite restaurants as well as travel eats. So far, I've not manage to put up any of my dad's recipes, and my blog has taken on a slightly different direction to also include home decor & some lifestyle posts.

What’s the dish you’re most proud of?
Usually, I enjoy all the savoury dishes I make, but baking can be a challenge at times and I never know if I'll get it right. I'm most proud of my Macarons which I now bake on a regular basis for my little bakery on the side, but if I really had to choose, it would be the fondant cakes I make for my niece on her birthday every year. The way her face lights up on the morning of her birthday when she sees her cake just kills me every time. My husband also got a fondant birthday cake this year as I needed an excuse to practice.

What one kitchen utensil could you not live without? My Chinese clever! I use it everyday, from chopping meat, fish, veg, bread, and even fruit! I'm so used to it that I can't use regular knives very well. I know it must look so odd cutting fruit like pineapple or melon with it, but it just glides through everything within seconds.

You’re stranded on a desert island. What three ingredients do you take with you? This is hard and I hope I'd never find myself in that situation! It would have to be oyster sauce, crisps, and ice cream. Oyster sauce makes everything taste better, and if I'm on an island, I guess I'll be catching my own fish and meat to cook! I won't be able to cook with crisps or ice cream, but I may as well have something I love if I'm going to be stranded.

Who do you take inspiration from? My dad's amazing food is what inspires me on a daily basis. I also get so much inspiration from great food I've eaten whilst at restaurants and on my travels. When I came back from our 2 week honeymoon in Japan, I cooked so much of the food we ate in Japan that they have now become staples in my kitchen. Regular trips to Hong Kong (my second home) also no doubt fuels my passion for cooking and baking. I love reading food blogs and trying out their recipes, but I rarely follow a recipe from a cookbook even though I own over 20 different ones! When it comes to food, inspiration comes easily to me even if it's just looking at a photo on Instagram.

Your favourite social media platform? I'm absolutely addicted to Instagram. I usually log into it as soon as my alarm goes off in the morning and it's probably to last thing I'm on before I fall asleep. Twitter is great for chatting with fellow bloggers, some of which are now good friends, but I just can't get into it. I'm addicted to beautiful images and I guess that's what Instagram is great for. I also love Pinterest, but never allow myself to go on, otherwise that's a few hours of my day gone!

Biggest disaster in the kitchen? I can't remember any recent disasters, but my most epic one had to be the birthday pie I made for my husband. I was attempting to make a square apple pie with the apple logo on it to mimic an apple mini, and instead of just going with regular apple pie filling, I decided to add peanut butter to it. My husband loves peanut butter, and in my mind peanut butter and apple would work well together. Turns out, if you stew apples and add peanut butter to it, it ends ups tasting a lot like sick. Needless to say, I will never use that combination again!

Favourite spot for coffee? I'm more of a tea kind of girl, and very fussy about coffee. It has to be roasted to release a deep coffee flavour, but not over roasted so that it becomes bitter. Sour tasting coffees are a big no no. I like coffee to have a rich, smooth taste with aromatic waves of flavours coming through as you drink it. Knot and Flying Coffee Bean are my go-to's if I want a good cup of coffee, outside of Italy! The Italians make the best coffees ever.

Favourite food photo you’ve taken? I'm not great at taking or styling food photos, but one that I was very pleased with has to be the almond coffee muffins. Something about the white wood panel background and the rustic muffin liners really made it look great.

What would you say was your most successful blog post and why? The most viewed post on my blog is my Okonomiyaki recipe. I don't know why it has been so popular but I guess people want to know how to make it without buying the Okonomiyaki kits, or maybe they are just curious as to what Okonomiyaki really is!

Now nominate three food bloggers you’d like to get to know more.
I would love to get to know more about Mandy from One Slice of Lemon, Jasmin from Jasmin Charlotte and Tiffany from From Yours Truly. Over to you girls to answer the questions as above; have fun with it!
