The Best Cheap Steak in London | Flat Iron, Covent Garden

I am sure Flat Iron is no longer a well kept secret with its now multiple branches across London, and it is hands down one of my go-to steak houses for good steak at reasonable prices. I tried their steaks back when they only had their original restaurant in Soho and was blown away by the quality and very small price tag.

Oh and I absolutely adore the interior design; rustic and industrial look at its very best and with many unique quirks like the pepper grinders and mini steak choppers. G bought the grinder and choppers for my birthday one year and it is one of the best presents I've ever received to boot.

The flat iron steaks are obviously their signature and the reason why I come back all the time. They have speciality steaks on the specials board, again with a low price tag, but none have ever beaten their flat iron so if you're a first timer, definitely start here first.

Flat Iron has to be the cheapest place in London for good quality steak. Steak and a side of salad is only £10, and sides like their incredibly delicious drippings cooked chips start from just £2.50 and sauces are £1.

Service is always friendly, informal and I love the mug of free popcorn and table water they serve as soon as you're seated.

The steak is well grilled on the outside and the right shade of pink on the inside. Incredibly juicy and buttery with good clean beefy flavours.

Drippings chips and the roasted aubergine are my favourites sides and always get ordered if there's two of us. I've tried all the sauces too and all are good in their own little mighty way.

The onglet steak from the specials board (top) and the flat iron (bottom). Flat iron always wins for me.

These days, I always go to the Covent Garden branch, because if you haven't clocked on yet, they give free ice cream after the meal! And not just any ice cream, it's salted caramel ice cream with top quality dark cocoa shavings on a Flat Iron stamped cone.

The covent garden branch even has views of the butcher hard at work!
