A Full Guide to Hong Kong McDonald's!
McDonald's in Hong Kong is very different to UK McDonald's; all the standard UK items are available but there is more variety and flavours on offer too which is just so much more interesting. Every time I go to Hong Kong, I can't wait to check out what's new on the menu and it's the perfect place to grab an afternoon snack or a midnight munch. I'm just a little addicted! I love all the different influences on the menu depending on which part of the world you're in, McDonalds in Japan is also great.
First of all, not all McDonald's in Hong Kong were created equally. The ones that have an ice-cream-to-go-window serves, you guessed it, ice cream only! A new flavour is introduced what seems like every month, and prices ranges from as little as 40p to £1.20 at most. The standard McDonald's without an ice cream window may not serve the special flavoured ice creams.
Most branches will have a McCafe which serves interesting cakes and desserts, as well as fancier hot drinks that are not available on the main counter.
And right by Admiralty MTR station is the world's first "McDonalds Next" - a new initiative that offers a new and exciting salad bar as well as customisable burgers via touch screen. I stumbled upon this branch on my trip back in April and I was so impressed. I didn't get the chance to try it but I will definitely have to hit it up on my next trip.

Breakfast
Spam + egg twisty pasta in soup.

Spam + scrambled egg burger. This is one of my all time favourites.
Fried chicken filet and cheese muffin with a Hong Kong style milk tea. They don't do this fried chicken one anymore which is such a shame as it was great. Who doesn't want fried chicken for breakfast?!
All Day Menu
Sausage + egg mcMuffins are so popular that they are available all day long! Fish-o-filet is around £1.50 which is so much cheaper than the UK, so I can never resist. There's also a McChicken bites with a sesame miso dip which was incredible.
Japanese yuzu pork and egg egg which unfortunately didn't taste very good. Still, it was fun to try.

Afternoon Tea
Not afternoon tea as in sandwiches and cakes, but afternoon tea as in 3pm snack time. Everywhere seems to offer an afternoon deal and McDonald's is no exception. When they say Hong Konger's eat all day long, they were not kidding. I only wished I had more time and belly space to fit all of this in!

Cannot resist the McWings, which are way, way better than KFC's hot wings. They even have a selection box of wings and nuggets. YESSSSS.
Ice Cream
This is what dreams are made of - epic flavours and combo ice creams with a price tag from 40p-£1.20!
Purple sweet potato and oreo.
Okinawa sea salt.
Matcha green tea.
Mango.
Black seasame.
Best £1 dessert ever!
Desserts
I love the pie flavours and just like the ice cream, they flavours change monthly.
Taro pie.
Pineapple pie is my absolute favourite! I wish they had this on the menu at all times. I've also seen red adzuki bean pie, banana pie and chocolate pie too but have never tried them.
At McCafe, this is where I fell in love with houjicha latte (bottom left). Green tea cheese cake and a really good cup of cappuccino.
Black sesame cheesecake, matcha frappucino and a hot matcha latte.
So how does Hong Kong McDonald's sound to you?! It's a good thing I don't live there or else you'd find me there daily.

ReplyDeleteIf you're ever back in the UK, you should definitely try the sweet chilli chicken wrap McDonalds. It’s part of the Wrap of the Day deal every Friday and Sunday. The crispy chicken paired with sweet chilli sauce, mayo, and crunchy veggies in a warm tortilla is absolutely delicious. It’s a great twist from the regular burger options and perfect for a light, tasty meal!
