Dining Room Decor - Before & After

I do love showing a before and after photo for my home decor posts, so here's my dining room reveal.

Having a through lounge is brilliant for opening up space in a small house like ours and it sure makes everything look a lot more spacious. Our dining area is also home to G's office space, a use of the many alcoves we have in this house.

The dining room isn't fully complete yet as I feel it lacks a little personality, so I'm keeping my eye out for soft furnishing pieces which should bring the space together.

Before:

After:
We kept our oak furniture from Muji which includes the dining table, chairs, a bench/coffee table and bookshelves. They've lasted for almost 10 years and still as good as new despite having gone through 4 house moves. The table cloth is from my favourite H&M homeware.

Our Muji bookshelves are great for storing books, comics and DVDs.

This seating bench also doubles up as storage. Perfect for small spaces like ours.

I adore my copper clock which I got from Made.com, another one of my favourite homeware stores.

For lack of idea of what to do with the old fireplace space, I've stuck my mini dessert bar pieces here for now. I'd been planning to stack a load of real wood logs here to give it that lovely rustic touch but now that I have a baby in tow, I'm not sure that's a good idea.

G's home office. I wanted a built in desk for G so that everything looked sleek and cohesive. The metal brackets were sprayed in black paint and white shelves were cut to size to create this desk space.

Keepsakes and travel mementos to keep the space interesting.

What you guys think of the our dining room? I would love to hear!

  1. It looks great! So much light and I love how airy the space is now. The home office is a great compact space too. I like how you've injected character and friendliness with the mementoes on the shelves, too - the Laputa robot and art book are particularly wonderful touches! x

  2. Love reading these before / after home decor posts! You know I love anything white so those window shutters and the decor around the fireplace is my favourite. Look forward to seeing the place in person later this month!
